Step 1: Restart the cable modem

  1. Unplug the modem power adapter.
  2. Wait 2 minutes.
  3. Plug back in and wait for all lights to stabilize (up to 5 minutes).

Step 2: Check the coaxial cable

  1. Tighten the screw connector at the modem and the wall splitter.
  2. Check the splitter — too many splitters weaken the signal.
  3. Avoid bending the cable sharply near windows.

Step 3: Check the modem status page

  1. Open a browser and visit 192.168.100.1 (cable modems) or 192.168.1.1.
  2. Look at the downstream/upstream power levels and SNR.

Step 4: Reset the modem

  1. Insert a pin in the reset hole for 10 seconds.
